Braun Series 7- 790cc
The ES8243A Arc IV Shaver is not the newest from Panasonic (release date: July 16, 2008) and is not considered as an advanced shaver. Yet, through the years the shaver has proven to its users to offer closer shaves, also it’s easy and simple to use and maintain. It is affordable and outshined other standard electric razors on the market. It does not come with its own cleaning and charging system dock, but put in mind that some people doesn’t really want it to have in order to save money by not having the troubles to buy cleaning cartridges, to save up some space and other reasons that they only know of. What’s important is that the Panasonic ES8243A has attracted many men’s attention, including me and the shaver is worth it to be in our list of best electric razor 2013.

Panasonic ES8243A Providing Closer Shave:

Panasonic Replacement Foil and Inner BladesIt features NanoTech Blades which are said to be the industry’s sharpest 30-degree blades, achieving even greater cutting performance. It uses a 4-Blade cutting system made up of 4 outer which is the foil and 2 inner blades. This Multi-fit Arc foil has an expanded cutting surface like a near-square design (a 3 blade would have a more rectangular design and this 4 blade is not too rectangle in shape so I call it near-square) and this design touches more the skin resulting in a better coverage and quicker shaving.  For the power, normally 10,000 rpm is enough for thick beards, but this standard type of razor, the Panasonic ES8243A has 13,000 rpm that’s more than enough to cut tougher beards.

Handling of the Shaver When Shaving:

When looking at the picture of the shaver, you can see that the front handle is blue (actually the blue is really darker compared to the online photos) and the side is black. Those color black are rubberized and it’s easy to grip and won’t slip even if the hands are wet. The curves on both sides of the shaver’s handle also provides the thumb and middle finger of the hand to sit in nicely, allowing a better hold of the shaver. It also has an improved shape/surface of its shaving head so it touches better the skin compared to the previous line of Panasonic’s 3-blade shaving system. So it’s much easier to shave and control. Plus, it features Flexible Pivoting Head that conforms to the neck and the jaw areas. Also, it can reach tighter areas such as shaving under the nose.

Skin’s Reaction to the Shaver:

There is very minimal to NO SKIN IRRITATION being experienced by its users. Since the razor’s head surface touches better the skin which helps spread the pressure, with that it can prevent skin irritations. The powerful motor running at 13,000 rpm prevents pulling and tugging of hairs that may also cause skin irritations. Plus, it also uses hypoallergenic blades that prevent skin irritations even for those with sensitive type of skin. Now, what about the minimal skin irritation mentioned above? When changing to a different or going to a new shaving method, the skin does reacts and at first you might get minimal redness. But when the skin had already adjusted, then those redness would no longer appear.

Ease of Use:

The Panasonic ES8243A has an LCD display that indicates battery status, charge indicator and cleaning reminder for better hygiene. The shaver is also 100% waterproof and can do both wet/dry shaving. It also has a pop-up trimmer to groom the moustache and sideburns. The user manual can also be easily followed.

Even though it doesn’t come with its own cleaning system, the shaver provides turbo mode function so when placing the unit under running water, it vibrates off debris and whiskers that clings unto the shaver. Also, the user’s manual has clear instructions (pictures/illustrations) when the shaver is needed to be cleaned.

Maintenance Cost:

Replace the system outer foil once every 1 year and the inner blades once every 2 years. The Panasonic WES9020PC replacement outer foil and inner blade set would cost $53 – $80 (latest price – list price; as of June 22, 2013).

User’s Manual:

Its manual has 3 languages: English, Francais and Español. The important contents follows: “Important Safety Instructions”, “Parts Identification” (w/ pictures), “Before Use”, “Reading The LCD Panel” (w/ pictures), “USING THE SHAVER” (w/ pictures),  “CLEANING THE SHAVER” (w/ pictures) and ‘caution for turbo mode’, “REPLACING OUTER FOIL AND INNER BLADES” (w/ pictures), “Removing It’s Rechargeable Battery” (w/ pictures), and others safety measures.

  • Easy to grip handle, great to maneuver and has an ergonomic design.
  • It is easy and simple to use.
  • Easy to maintain.

Trimmer is not good.
Battery life may only offer 4-6 shaves that could be troublesome for frequent travelers.

What Other Consumers Has To Say:

Most consumers are satisfied that the shaver does the job well and the shaver comes at an affordable price. A closer shave is attainable, it also shaves the chin area well and less to no irritations being experienced. But some users who frequent travels did not like the battery life and a user also complained that even it shaves well but has problem with the quality. Luckily it comes in a 2 year warranty.

Final Conclusion:

For first time users or for tight budget people, this is definitely your best choice. The Panasonic ES8243A is affordable and works as advertised, shaves closer and quicker. With quality issues, it comes with 2 year warranty so no worries about that. A full charge battery can offer 4-6 good shaves, that’s not also a big problem and knowing it indicates the battery level of the shaver so we know when to charge it. It is simple, easy to use and maintain. And what’s best is that, it is one standard razor that could compete against other advanced shavers on the market.
